Announcing the "Kagyü Ngag Dzö" Empowerments at Benchen Monastery

For the benefit of all beings in general and for the spread of the doctrine of the Victorious Ones in particular, and also for the fulfillment of the enlightened intentions of Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche and his swift rebirth, the Benchen Monastery Office Committee and the Benchen Community have requested His Eminence Drubwang Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche to bestow the precious transmissions of the "Kagyü Ngag Dzö" at Benchen Phüntshok Dargyeling Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal. His Eminence has kindly accepted this request and has set the date to begin with the transmissions to the 21st day of the 1st Tibetan month of next year, which corresponds to Sunday, 3 March 2013, close to the time around which our annual spring course would have taken place. This is also an auspicious occasion for our fifth group of three-year retreatants, who will begin retreat in 2013, to receive most of the required empowerments. It is estimated that the entire transmission of empowerments and reading transmissions will take four weeks.

Preparation of Tsatsas

On 17 August the making of the Tsatsas, mantras and puja texts to insert into Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's stupas began. Chagdzö Tashi Öser and Karma Lama are in charge of supervising all of the preparations. Now the summer retreat (yarne) started in our Benchen Monastery and all senior monks are helping by enthusiastically putting their full time efforts towards the preparations. There are going to be a few thousand Tsatsas to be made.

Visit to Rumtek Monastery

According to H.H. the Karmapa's wishes on 1st July Tashi Özer, Tashi Wanggyal and myself, we left to Rumtek Monastery with Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's shirt, hair, relic bones and relic pills. In the evening we stayed at Sangter Tulku's uncle's house. 2nd July in the morning we left to Rumtek Monastery and arrived 10:00 according to the arrangement. Now is raining season and it has been raining continuously for five days and it has been foggy. At that day we arrived in Rumtek the sky was clear and the monastery together with H.E. Gyaltsap Rinpoche made a wonderful reception for the arrival of Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's relics. You can see the photos.

Butter Lamp Team

Butter Lamp teamDuring the 49 days until Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's cremation Lama Jampal (Italy Lama) was responsible for all butter-lamp offerings until the cremation finished. There is a photo attached that shows Lama Jampal and his team. This photo shows the butter lamp team. On this photo which was taken on 14th June, Tashi Öser and me are thanking them for their work and also handing over presents. Alltogether during day and night they managed to offer more than 120,000 lamps. They have really done nice work.

A Visit to H.H. the Karmapa

As previously reported, Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's closest attendants, Lama Geleg Paljor, Tenpa Yarphel, Sherab Wangchuk, Jinpa Lodrö, Tashi Öser and Karma went to see H.H. the Karmapa, mainly to express their gratitude for his never-ending support in this difficult time, also on behalf of all of the Benchen Monastery community. Before doing so, they had requested H.E. Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche's blessing and advice. Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche fully agreed with the mission and gave his wholehearted blessing for it. Having thus travelled to India, on the morning of 4 June, which corresponded to the 15th day or full moon of Saga Dawa, they were then fortunate to actually see H.H. the 17th Karmapa Orgyen Thrinle Dorje at his residence at Gyutö Monastery in India. On this occasion, Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's attendants were able to offer a full set of wooden and fully painted Phurpas, required for the extensive Vajrakila-Drubchen, to H.H. This was one of the express wishes of Tenga Rinpoche and he asked repeatedly to go ahead with this.

During the meeting H.H. the Karmapa took lots of time to listen to all the details of what had occurred, from the time shortly before Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's passing until the cremation and retrieving of his Precious Remains. These events were mainly related by Tenpa Yarphel, the General Secretary of Tenga Rinpoche. During this audience, among other things, H.H. the Karmapa's advice was asked as to where and how to keep the Precious Remains of Rinpoche.

News from Benchen Monastery (June 1, 2012)

You all know that we opened the the phur khang (cremation stupa). Now there is the breaking news: this afternoon Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's shabjis discretely went through the relics with great care because when we visit H.H. Karmapa we are required to explain all the details. For these reasons we reinspected the relics. You all know that Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche left his skull cup in which we haven't found any letters or relic pills up until now. Then we looked through the remaining bones one by one, so far we could not find any syllables that appeared or see any relic pills till now. We heard that it can happen that the relic pills grow later on.
