Activities in Benchen Monastery

Today, 26. June, His Holiness the XVII Gyalwa Karmapa's birthday, the Benchen Monastery Community together with Drubwang Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche celebrated the occasion in the Parphing Shedra at around 10am.

Today, which is an auspicious day—Guru Rinpoche Day—we also had the inauguration of Khenpo Lhakyab who has been a monk from the Benchen Monastery in Tibet, and studied in the Shedra in Sherab Ling under the guidance of Tai Situ Rinpoche. He completed his studies with the Khenpo degree. With the inauguration he now formally became a Benchen Khenpo and he will now teach in our Parphing Shedra.

As you may know, all of our little monks from Swoyambhu are now staying in Parphing in the rooms of the Niguma Retreat Center and in tents. They are using rooms of the unfinished Arya Tara Ling nunnery as temporary classrooms. It is a nice location as they are having a lot of open space on the compound. They will have stay in Parphing until the repairs of Buildings in Swoyambhu are completed. In the meantime the efforts to complete the construction of the nunnery will continue according to available budget.
