In 2001 he took refuge vows from the late Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche and became one of the Benchen monks at Kathmandu Monastery, learning reading and writing and all the various rituals of the Karma Kagyu tradition.
In 2007 he received full monk vows from the late Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche. He then went to the Shedra in Pharping to begin his studies in Buddhist Philosophy, Logic and Buddhist Science under the guidance of Drubwang Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche.
