In May, the third group entered the three-year retreat
after receiving all the required empowerments and
instructions from both of our Rinpoches. Much preparation
is made by the monks themselves before actually
entering the retreat. Each monk develops the
determination within himself to undertake this discipline after truly understanding the importance of practicing Buddha Dharma. Then they request both Rinpoches to allow them to enter the three years
of retreat.

Because their determination comes about through right motivation,
they will be able to deal with any difficulties that may arise during
the retreat, and in this way their retreat will be successful. All of
the retreatants, past and present, are very fortunate that both Rinpoches,
in their compassion and generosity, pass their lineage
on through initiations and instructions.

On the morning of entering, the necessary pujas were held and
the relatives and dharma friends of the retreatants gathered to
make offerings and wishing prayers for their well-being and the
success of their practice. Our Rinpoches began the final puja just
inside the door, with all the retreatants gathered behind them and
the families and well-wishers gathered outside. It was an emotional
farewell we bid each other as the huge doors slowly closed.

The retreatants are all well and continue to receive additional
instructions from both Rinpoches.
