BENCHEN MONASTERY SCHOOL

Benchen Monastery plays an important role in preserving the education systems of Buddhist philosophy and Vajrayana ritual practices through the great knowledge of both of our Rinpoches, Khenpo and respective resident teachers, and their dedication is very much appreciated. These systems, that have been taught for generations, start from the reading, writing and memorization of texts and philosophy as well as all the required education for the monastic community, such as the beautiful art of torma making, mandala drawing and painting, lama dances, ritual music, and thangka painting. Besides this traditional monastic training, a standard system of education is also being taught.

A standard Nepali curriculum for classes 1-5 has been taught at the Benchen Monastery school for the last six years. As we live in a modern world, a well rounded education is essential for all people and for the monastery as well, and for this reason both of our Rinpoches are very supportive and have encouraged the students to study as much as they are able. The curriculum includes art classes, and this year paintings were selected from each class and will be shown at a special exhibition in Poland. The school is running very well through the blessings and generous support of the Rinpoches and sponsors – individual sponsors as well as those who are sponsoring through Lotus Direkthilfe e.V. The work of our dedicated teachers is very much appreciated by the students. The monastery community would like to extend their gratitude and thanks to all the people who are involved in this project, with special thanks to Lotus Direkthilfe e.V. for their tireless assistance.
