A record number of people have been treated at the Benchen Free Clinic. All together 7000 people were treated last year (2003), and this year a similar number of people were treated. The clinic has been running successfully for 10 years now with determined assistance from the Monastery, the Himalayan Medical Foundation, and especially the ISIS Foundation. The Free Clinic consists of a laboratory and a medical and dental clinic, offering traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), allopathic medicine and dental treatment. The Benchen TCM group in Germany organized a TCM doctor to be in the Benchen Free Clinic here in Kathmandu for a longer time so that more people can benefit from this treatment. Benchen Monastery is very thankful to all organizations for their assistance, including the Swiss TCM group for sending 500 kg of herbal medicine to the Clinic.

While the clinic in Pharping was open only one day a week last year, it is now open twice a week because of the increasing number of patients and the great generosity of the Himalayan Foundation.
